a brief introduction

Salt Union Ltd is based at the Winsford Rock Salt Mine in Cheshire.
Established over 150 years ago it is the oldest working mine in Britain today.
Located more than 150 metres below ground, the mine is capable of supplying more than 100,000 tonnes of salt a week during severe winter weather. The consistently high quality of the mined salt is one of the reasons the highways agency, local authorities and contractors trust Salt Union Ltd, to help them keep the roads clear of snow and ice in winter.

Salt Union Ltd is not just a rock salt supplier, the team has also developed several new technologies designed to make the management of winter maintenance programmes easier and more cost efficient. These include a stock management system which helps customers to accurately monitor their salt levels, storage solutions that reduce salt leaching; benefiting budgets and the environment, and municipal vehicle tracking and monitoring system Exactrak.
